Charles Manson Has Open Casket Funeral Before Being Cremated

Charles Manson has been laid to rest, four months after he died of natural causes. He had an open casket funeral in Porterville, California and was cremated following the service, according to TMZ. After the funeral, his ashes were dumped into a creek located in a nearby forest.

His body required heavy make-up and gloves to cover up deterioration after being in storage since his death in November. His body had been put on ice while the courts decided who had a legal claim to it. Ultimately, Manson's grandson Jason Freeman won the right to decide what to do with the remains of the cult leader who was the mastermind behind a spree of murders the late 1960's.

30 people showed up for the service, including Manson's former fiancee, Afton Burton, and former Manson family member Sandra Good. Freeman and another supporter of the cult-leader spoke during the funeral. The funeral pamphlet featured two quotes from the Bible. The first one was John 15:13.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

The second quote was from Philippians 4:13.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

The cover of the pamphlet featured a sun setting over a lake with the words "Beyond the Sunset" written in white across the bottom.

Pastor Mark Pitcher told TMZ that he agreed to hold the funeral service for Manson because Freeman was a Christian who was in need of a pastor.
