States of Emergency are being issued for New Jersey and parts of New York due to storms moving through the area. In New York, it's for New York City, Long Island, and the northern suburbs which means folks are urged to stay off the roads.
Rainfall rates of up to 3 inches per hour are possible, with up to 8 inches of rain probable in some areas late afternoon well into the evening.
Flooding is causing issues on mass transit including suspensions on the New Jersey Transit Gladstone Branch and the Long Island Railroad Port Washington Branch.
Light to moderate showers overnight could prolong flooding into Friday morning.
